			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><p>Self awareness in dreams is also known as <a href="http://best-lucid-dreaming-techniques.com/what-is-lucid-dreaming.html">lucid dreaming</a>. Most of the time, people have no self awareness in dreams until after the fact. They wake up, remember the dream, and understand that they were dreaming. Even without self awareness in dreams, some dreamers may be able to control some aspects of their dreams according to their wishes. But when you have real self awareness in dreams, you can <a href="http://best-lucid-dreaming-techniques.com/dream-control.html">control so much more</a>, and you can build your self awareness overall, as well.</p>
<p>Some people are lucky enough to experience self awareness in dreams spontaneously. A very small portion of the population has lucid dreams without even trying, which is really amazing. It seriously makes me jealous! These people are also likely to have really vivid dreams, even when they aren&#8217;t self aware during their dreams. Some of these people learn to control their dreams without even learning <a href="http://best-lucid-dreaming-techniques.com/">lucid dreaming techniques</a> first.</p>
<p>Our dreams are really all about self awareness in the first place. No matter what dream theory you subscribe to, you probably have some idea that dreams are related to our thoughts of everyday life. Many people think – and I&#8217;m one of them! – that dreams hold the key to understanding yourself by unveiling emotions and thoughts you didn&#8217;t even know you were having. So building self awareness in dreams can actually help you to build self awareness in general.</p>
<h2>How Can This Work?</h2>
<p>You may be wondering how self awareness in dreams can make you any more likely to build general self awareness than simply <a href="http://best-lucid-dreaming-techniques.com/how-to-remember-your-dreams.html">remembering</a> and <a href="http://best-lucid-dreaming-techniques.com/how-to-interpret-dreams.html">interpreting your dreams</a>. There are several ways that becoming lucid in your dreams makes dreaming an even more effective technique for becoming self aware in general:</p>

<li><strong>Exploring the Dreamscape Further: </strong>In normal dreams, you don&#8217;t get to explore the dreamscape because your dream just carries you along. When you&#8217;re lucid, though, you can explore the actual landscape of your dreams, noticing details that might have been veiled from you before. <li><strong>Facing Your Attackers:</strong> Oftentimes, dreams are about being attacked or chased or intimidated. Often, you don&#8217;t know who or what your attackers are. Facing your attackers and even talking with them can help you understand what part of yourself they represent, bringing you to a new level of self awareness.<strong></strong></li>
<li><strong>Talking with Dream Characters:</strong> Most people assume that dream characters are projections of their own minds, even when they resemble characters that they know in real life. By talking with your dream characters at length, you may be able to figure out what they&#8217;re in your dreams to tell you. Many dream characters will have specific things to say to you or about you to increase your knowledge of yourself.<strong></strong></li>
<li><strong>Doing New Things:</strong> In your lucid dreams, you can cultivate self awareness in dreams by doing new things. You can try something you&#8217;ve been afraid to try before, <a href="http://best-lucid-dreaming-techniques.com/benefits-of-lucid-dreaming.html">test out solutions to interpersonal problems</a>, or <a href="http://best-lucid-dreaming-techniques.com/music-in-lucid-dreams.html">discover a new song</a> you want to write. Doing new things through your dreams gives you the ability to do a test run of sorts, which can make you more comfortable with those actions later on.<strong></strong></li>
</ul>
<p>Building self awareness in dreams isn&#8217;t necessarily easy, but it&#8217;s worth your time. By becoming more self aware in your dreams, you can become more self aware in real life. Self awareness, I think, gives you more confidence and allows you to deal with personal and interpersonal problems more effectively and quickly.</p>

<h2>Step One: Dream Recall</h2>
<p>Any lucid dreaming guide would be incomplete without discussion about <a href="http://best-lucid-dreaming-techniques.com/how-to-remember-your-dreams.html">dream recall</a>. Learning to recall your dreams can make them more vivid every night and can help you pick out dream symbols that might induce lucidity at first. Recalling your dreams gets easier if you write down your dreams – everything you can remember about them – in a <a href="http://best-lucid-dreaming-techniques.com/dream-journal.html">dream journal</a> and review it frequently. Learning to have better dream recall can also help with <a href="http://best-lucid-dreaming-techniques.com/dream-interpretation.html">dream interpretation</a>, even before you start having lucid dreams.</p>
<h2>Step Two: Reality Checks</h2>
<p><a href="http://best-lucid-dreaming-techniques.com/reality-checks.html">Reality checks</a> can help you distinguish whether you&#8217;re in reality or in a dream. <h2>Step Three: Subconscious Priming</h2>
<p>This lucid dreaming guide wouldn&#8217;t be complete without giving you an idea of how to prime your subconscious mind to have lucid dreams. There are several ways to do this. One is to use CDs and recordings that have subliminal messages related to lucid dreaming on them. These messages can help your subconscious mind get into lucid dreaming mode, and can be very helpful. For instance, you might look at something written, look away, and look at it again. In the physical world, the writing will be the same, but in a dream world, it will most likely change. Reality checks are most effective if you train yourself to do them during the day, which makes you more likely to do them in your dreams.</li>

You can also get many CDs that can feed your unconscious subliminal messages about lucid dreaming, which can be really helpful. <p>Learning to have lucid dreams is all about waking up your consciousness while you&#8217;re still asleep. The benefits of lucid dreaming begin with being able to cultivate stress relief through your dreams – at least, that&#8217;s the one that I like most. But <a href="http://best-lucid-dreaming-techniques.com/what-is-lucid-dreaming.html">lucid dreaming</a> can have many other concrete benefits in your own life. Here are just some of the benefits of lucid dreaming I&#8217;ve seen in my own life and in the lives of other lucid dreamers I&#8217;ve encountered:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Stress Relief:</strong> Like I said, this is one of my favorite benefits of lucid dreaming. During particularly stressful times in my life, it&#8217;s been a huge boon to be able to enter into a lucid dream and <a href="http://best-lucid-dreaming-techniques.com/how-to-change-the-scenery.html">take a relaxing Hawaiian vacation</a> for free. Lots of people use <a href="http://best-lucid-dreaming-techniques.com/lucid-dreaming-sex.html">sex in lucid dreams</a> for stress relief, or they may act out fantasies where they&#8217;re <a href="http://best-lucid-dreaming-techniques.com/how-to-become-invincible.html">beating all the bad guys</a> in their lives, representing busting all the stress factors they have at the moment.</li>
<li><strong>Problem Solving Skills:</strong> Many scientists and mathematicians see this as the best of the benefits of lucid dreaming. They can think about a problem in their dreams. Since the brain is working in a different way, it will often make new connections you wouldn&#8217;t have thought of before, making it easier to come up with ways to solve problems. You can also use lucid dreams to solve problems in your interpersonal life by &#8220;trying out&#8221; different solutions and seeing how they play out in your dream.</li>
<li><strong>Creativity Boost:</strong> Many people are super creative in their lucid dreams, and you can be intentionally so. Some painters and inventors use lucid dreams to find ideas that they use in real life, and musicians can compose real <a href="http://best-lucid-dreaming-techniques.com/music-in-lucid-dreams.html">music in dreams</a>, as well. Even if you aren&#8217;t in a creative profession, it can be interesting to see how your brain makes new connections on a subconscious level, and you can take some of this creativity with you into your everyday life.</li>
<li><strong>Practice Skills:</strong> In lucid dreams, Stephen LaBerge asserts that you can actually practice physical skills to improve them over time. Many martial arts practitioners, pilots, surgeons, and other people whose jobs depend on their being able to do a series of specific actions very efficiently practice their skills in lucid dreams. This is one of the great benefits of lucid dreaming, since it can actually solidify real connections in the brain to make these actions more natural in everyday life.</li>
<li><strong>Facing Fears:</strong> Some people <a href="http://best-lucid-dreaming-techniques.com/how-to-turn-nightmares-into-lucid-dreams.html">use lucid dreams to overcome nightmares</a> or face their phobias. You can set up your lucid dream to face a worst case scenario, so you already know that you can get through it. You can also use your dreams to slowly experience your fears and to know you can conquer them. I love these benefits of lucid dreaming. For instance, I used to be terrified of creepy-crawlies. In my dreams, though, I kept making myself face them, knowing I could wake up at any time. Now I still don&#8217;t particularly enjoy them, but I can get over much of the fear that used to come with them.</li>

<p>These aren&#8217;t the only benefits of lucid dreaming, but they&#8217;re the ones that I most often hear from other people and experience for myself. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><p>Sometimes the problem isn&#8217;t how to get to sleep, it&#8217;s how to stay asleep! If you&#8217;re having trouble getting your body to learn – or re-learn – how to stay asleep, you may be constantly waking up in the night. Then, it can be even more difficult to get back to sleep. Learning how to stay asleep doesn&#8217;t have to be super hard, and it doesn&#8217;t have to involve medications for sleeping. Instead, take these simple tips to learn how to stay asleep after you get to sleep:</p>
<ul>
<li>Make your room darker. Sometimes when you&#8217;re struggling with how to stay asleep, your body is actually waking you up because you&#8217;re getting too much light in your room. Your body is programmed to be sleepy when it&#8217;s dark out and awake when it&#8217;s light, so making your room darker with dark curtains or even an eye mask can help you stay asleep better.</li>
<li>Minimize noises. You may not realize how even small noises can wake you up at night. Sometimes, you may not even realize you&#8217;ve been woken up. If you want to learn how to stay asleep, earplugs can be a good idea. Another option is to use white noise in the background, which will drown out sudden noises that can cause you to wake up in the night.</li>

They basically occur when you feel like you&#8217;ve woken up and are going about your morning routine, but you&#8217;re still actually in a dream. False awakenings can be a little freaky when you finally figure out that you weren&#8217;t awake after all – or when you do awaken for real and figure out that you haven&#8217;t actually showered or had breakfast yet!</p>
<p>The problem with false awakenings for lucid dreamers is that your brain assumes you&#8217;re awake, so you feel no need to do a <a href="http://best-lucid-dreaming-techniques.com/reality-checks.html">reality check</a>. You can get dressed, brush your teeth, and do everyday things, and the dream is super vivid, detailed, and real. However, you can learn to use false awakenings to induce <a href="http://best-lucid-dreaming-techniques.com/what-is-lucid-dreaming.html">lucid dreams</a> if you follow a few simple steps:</p>
<ol>
<li><strong>Perform Reality Checks in Daily Life: </strong>Because your brain assumes you&#8217;re actually awake during false awakenings, you won&#8217;t be as likely to perform a reality check as you would have been in a less lifelike dream.
